I love baby showers, especially since becoming a mom myself! There’s nothing quite like the anticipation that expecting a new little one brings, and I think that new and expecting parents deserve all the support we can give them! In today’s post, I’m partnering with Basic Invite to give a few tips for planning a baby shower, and sharing a few free baby shower printables!
This post is sponsored by Basic Invite. As always, all opinions I’ve shared here are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that keep this blog running!
Baby Shower Planning Tips
1. Choose good baby shower invitations.
This is an important one because it’s a great chance to give a strong first impression. All of the baby shower invites featured in the images on this post are available from Basic Invite – here are just a few reasons why they are a great choice for all your stationery needs:
- Almost Unlimited Colors (and foil options!). Every single element of each card can be color-customized with over 180 different color options!
- Custom Samples. Basic Invite allows you to order a real, printed sample of your stationery before ordering, to make sure everything is just right (this is a great feature for wedding invites especially)!
- Over 40 Different Envelope Colors. I love that Basic Invite offers different envelope colors – it really gives your cards a custom feel!
- Address Capturing Service. Basic Invite can provide you with a link to send to friends and family, and saves their addresses in your account for easy address collection. They also offer free recipient envelope addressing!
Right now, Basic Invite is offering 15% off your order with coupon code 15FF51! (This works for any of their products, not just the baby shower invitations! They have tons of great stationery, so be sure to check them out!)
2. Don’t schedule too late!
I think very beginning of the 3rd trimester (around 28-30 weeks) is ideal for showers, especially because I don’t know many people who feel cute at 36 weeks pregnant. This earlier timing also minimizes the chance that mom-to-be will miss her own shower if she goes into early labor (which happens more often than you’d think)!
3. Have two people help with gifts.
A lot of people think to appoint one person to help with gifts, but I’m here to tell you that two is actually ideal! One person can write down gift info for thank you notes, and the other person can help bring gifts to mom and help her open bigger ones. (Because it’s hard and awkward to open a large gift with a 30-week baby bump while wearing a dress!)
4. Keep games low-pressure and fun.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of games that require people to talk to strangers, do embarrassing things, or that are really involved. I want to make sure my guests are comfortable and can participate as much or as little as they’d like! A few of my favorites are baby shower bingo, advice for the mom-to-be, and letters to/predictions about the baby.
Basic Invite has a number of baby shower games available on their website. These are great because there’s no extra work involved and you can be sure your invitations, games, and thank-you notes all match!
5. Keep favors practical.
I think that favors are a great way to show appreciation for your guests, but I also am always mindful of giving favors that won’t cause clutter. My favorite kinds of favors are consumables, such as candy, food, or beauty products. (For my own baby shower, we gave out one of my favorite kinds of lip balm – see the free download below!)
Free Baby Shower Printables
Since we’re talking baby showers today, I wanted to be sure to share a few free downloads! I have a game and a favor idea and download.
The game and favor match the “Showered With Love” invitation suite, but if you want to use a different one, you don’t have to worry, since Basic Invite will allow you to customize the colors for any of their baby shower invites! The colors featured in these games are Pearl, Blue Sky, Lust, Sunset, and Tea Rose.
Emoji Pictionary: Children’s Books
I think this game is tons of fun! Guests will look at a group of emojis and guess which children’s book the emojis are describing. Some are pretty easy, and some are quite difficult (we didn’t have anyone get them all right at my shower)!

Favor Tag
This favor tag is meant to be used with an eos Lip Balm Sphere. To use, print and cut out the tags, and cut a 1.5″ hole over the O (a 1.5″ circle hole punch works very well for this!). Open up one of the lip balm spheres, place the bottom half through the hole, and screw on the lid! Closing the lip balm around the piece of paper will hold it in place. I got the idea from Something Turquoise, and they have a great, in-depth tutorial for assembling the favors!

The emoji game looks like soooo much fun! I don’t like those “interact with stranger games” either lol. I’m visiting from Creative K Kids so I pinned both of your pins. If you haven’t pinned yet, I’m #24 & #25. Have a great weekend!
