Wear to Work – Autumn/Winter

As someone who officially has a full-time job, I’ve had to compile a work wardrobe. I try to keep my work wardrobe fairly simple and only buy pieces that will mix and match with what I currently have. My office is officially business casual, but tends to be a little more casual than business, so most of these recommendations will fit into that atmosphere. Today, I’m sharing a few must-have pieces to wear to work this autumn and winter!

Your Workwear Essentials for Autumn & Winter

Chunky Cardigan

I don’t know about you, but my office gets pretty cold when it’s cool outside! (It’s always either 68 or 83 degrees – never in between.) I’m always sure to have a thick sweater or wrap to keep me warm. I love any piece of clothing that is basically like wearing a blanket, so sweaters and wraps are a must for me!

Long Sleeved Dress

I love a good dress, but they can be difficult to wear in the winter (especially if your office is on the colder side). During the cooler months, it’s essential to have a nice long-sleeved dress made of thick fabric. I prefer autumn/winter dresses that are a bit shorter than knee length, because I think that looks better with tights (another winter must-have).

Loafers

I keep seeing photos of my favorite style bloggers wearing loafers, and it’s making me feel like I need to get a pair! A nice pair of pointed-toe loafers can make anything from jeans to workwear to dresses look chic and put-together. And good loafers are a really timeless addition to any wardrobe!

Polished Trousers

I recently bought a pair of the Harper Trousers from Old Navy, and I’ve been loving them for cooler weather! They keep me warm and look great with a long sleeved shirt or sweater tucked in. I’d recommend the brushed twill – it’s super soft and looks great!

Colored Coat

I bought a burgundy peacoat several years ago, and not only is it still in great shape, but I get tons of compliments on it! It’s warm, timeless, and totally office-appropriate. It looks great over my often all-neutral wardrobe, so I love to wear it to work in the winter! I’m totally crushing over coats in pink right now – check out some of my favorites below.

Ankle Boots

I love ankle boots, because they’re easy to dress up or down. Pair a black pair with tights and a dress, or wear a brown pair with dark jeans and a nice shirt (if jeans are permissible at your office). I’d recommend going with dressier pairs if you’re going to be wearing them to work.

I hope these suggestions help you build a better work wardrobe during the cooler months of the year! What is your top wear to work item for the fall and winter?

Business Casual Style Inspiration

I’ve found that it’s surprisingly hard to find business casual style inspiration online; I’m really not sure why (people seem to think it’s more boring than casual clothes? I definitely don’t think that’s the case). I’m just about to start a job, and I wanted to gather some inspiration for things I can wear to work. My plan is to create a work “capsule wardrobe” with about 30 pieces that are really easy to mix and match (and I’m about 2/3 of the way there). These outfits show some good ways to use simple pieces, and gave me a good idea of what other items of clothing I should include in my workwear wardrobe. Business casual definitely doesn’t have to be boring!
